Free Routing Software

Free push & shove routing software a new high quality push & shove routing software for printed circuit boards is available.
The application is written in Java and currently completely free.
It communicates with host PCB-design systems via the standard Specctra (Electra) DSN Interface. There exists also an interface to Cadsoft Eagle.
The interactive push&shove router is production stable and unsurpassed in its free angle capabilities.
The autorouter is currently under development.
It is already stable in the standard 45 degree routing mode.
The speed of the autorouter is still a bit slow, but the quality of the routing results is very good when compared with the results of existing autorouters.
Gerber RS-274D / X file viewer in Java

Overview:
According to Philipp, the Gerber RS-274D/X file viewer in Java has some nice features, it's fairly modular and is still pretty small, so extending it for other projects shouldn't be a big problem.
The core of the program is a virtual plotter, which simulates a real world plotter and
it's behaviour using a state machine and a parser. Output is done via a Java Graphics Context. This way i have included in the main program not only a on screen display but also implemented a print routine and an image export. Export to other formats should be straight forward using the Graphics context of Java.

GerbMagic is a vector converter from Gerber RS-274x data to PostScript and PDF. Also a high resolution Software RIP(Up to 30,000 DPI) for Gerber data to TIFF, BMP, RID format. A lot of Gerber files can be grouped onto a single page in WYSIWYG(what you see is what you
get) fashion. The whole page can then be converted to a selected format.

Gerber Viewer (gerbv) is a viewer for Gerber files. Gerber files are generated from PCB CAD system and sent to PCB manufacturers as basis for the manufacturing process. The standard supported by gerbv is RS-274X. The basic difference between RS-274D (the old standard) and RS-274X is basically the addition of apertures in RS-274X. It might be possible to make an RS-274X file out of an RS-274D file and an aperture list.
gerbv also supports drill files. The format supported are known under names as NC-drill or
Excellon. The format are a bit undefined and different EDA-vendors implement it different. But basically you need to have the tools definition in the file, then the parser is quite tolerant. The different holes are shown as dots in the (scaled) correct size.
The different layers of the PCB are separated into different files. gerbv can load all files at the same time, though it can currently not show them at the same time. You have to browse through the different layers with the radio buttons on the right side.
gerbv has also a batch feature. By writing a "backend" in Scheme you can for example generate other file formats or do design rule check. gerbv parses the Gerber file and calls an external function written in Scheme. Since the Scheme implementation is based on Guile, there are more functions available than the ordinary R4RS.

PCB is an interactive printed circuit board editor for the X11 window system. PCB includes a rats nest feature, design rule checking, and can provide industry standard RS-274-X (Gerber), NC drill, and centroid data (X-Y data) output for use in the board fabrication and assembly process. PCB offers high end features such as an autorouter and trace optimizer which can tremendously reduce layout time.
